Joys & Concerns from April 2005
This is where we recognize personal events in the lives of friends and members of Spindeltop Unitarian Church.
Roberta Howard has been moved to the Claremont nursing home on 23rd St. She says she is getting good care there.
A former Spindletop minister, Walter Moulton and his wife Paula had surgery in February. Paula's was to remove calcium from her aorta; sh is recovering well. Walter had an unusual cance in his chest removed, and is still in danger, (his surgeon was Bill Clinton's surgeon). The doctors hope to begin radiation and chemotherapy soon. If you would like to write to them, their address is: 3 Hidden Lane, Kennebunkport, ME 04043 (Submitted by R. Lihs)
Two people remembered by longtime members died recently. Former founding member Jim Morgan's wife, Wifred, died March 16th in Nederland. Although she was a lifelong Baptist, she attended church events with Jim and brought along the delicious Bisquick and sausage balls she was famous for. When Jim came to the church to do yard work, she came along so she would be there to help him in case he had an accident.
Dr. Burt Rule, a longtime church member and ACLU activist, died March 13th in San Antonio. He taught American Literature at Lamar for 25 years. His family may be contacted at vgmac@gvtc.com. (Submitted by M. Troxell)
John Dessain was hospitalized in Houston for 2 weeks in February due to pneumonia. He is now at home. During his two week hospital stay he was also diagnosed with lymphoma. He is being evaluated by a team of cancer specialist.
