Board Meeting Minutes - 07/20/03
Minutes of the Spindletop Unitarian Church Board of Director's meeting on 07/20.03.
The Spindletop Unitarian Church board of directors met on 07/20/03 at 9:00am.
The following board members were present:
Jo Woody
Karen Corwin
Sharon Colbert
Corky Cullins
Tom Harlan
Ria Lhis
Kathy Allen
Jeff Pittman
Tom Capo (ex-officio)
After calling the meeting to order, the following reports were received by the board:
The minister's report was presented by Tom Capo. The upcoming calendar was presented. Minister's financial arrangements were discussed. Tom also presented his list of near-term objectives for work, including fundraising, newcomer classes, education programs, community outreach programs, etc. Arrangements for Tom's upcoming ordination/installation ceremony were also discussed.
The finance report was next presented by Karen Corwin.
The grounds/maintenance committee report was next offered by Tom Harlan.
The social concerns committee report was next presented by Ria Lhis. Ria discussed fundraising for Some Other Place and social concerns issues from the national UUA.
Jo Woody scheduled a meeting for the ministerial relations committee for August 10th.
The communications committee report was next presented by Jeff Pittman. Jeff discussed the status of and improvements to the church website, and scheduled a workshop/training session for Aug.6th.
Having received and approved committee reports, the board next scheduled work days for every saturday in August, in preparation for the upcoming ordination/instalation ceremony.
Corky Cullins next solicited ideas from the board members for committee re-organization, to include prospective chairpersons and committee members.
Having disposed of old business, the board next considered the following new business:
A craft/booksale was scheduled for November 8th as a church fundraiser.
UU newcomers classes and Cakes for the Queen of Heaven classes were scheduled (dates to be published in church newsletter).
The board was informed that our advertising cost for radio spots on KBLU will be increasing. The board decided to continue the advertising provided sufficient donations can be solicited to offset the cost.
Proposed dates for the use of the church by PAST were approved.
A proposal to use the church by Tish McKracken for a benefit/fundraiser was approved.
Having no further new business to attend, the meeting was adjourned.
