Board Meeting Minutes - 11/16/03

The Spindletop Unitarian Church Board of Directors met on November 16, 2003 at 9:00am.

The following board members were present:

Jeff Pittman

Corky Cullins

Tom Harlan

Karen Corwin

Jo Woody

Tom Capo (ex-officio)

The following board members were absent:

Oscar Murphy

Mike Conn

Ria Lihs

Sharon Colbert

The following guests attended the board meeting:

Ann Marie Hicks

Bob Mark

After calling the meeting to order, The board first approved the previous minutes from August, September and October by unanimous vote.

The board next received the following reports:

Tom Capo presented the minister's report to include the following:

A minister's activity report.

An upcoming minister's schedule.

A presentation on obtaining religious education material and help.

A list of items for the board's consideration to include:

opening board meetings with chalice lighting

have ministerial candidates preach (no cost to church)

contact list and life crisis file for membership

religious education program assistance

ministerial networking and community outreach

membership and committee issues

The 2004 SWUUC calendar was also presented.

The treasurer's report was then received by the board.

Remaining committee reports were waived as status quo is maintained.

The board next turned to old business. The following items were discussed:

The status of the advertisement on Ed Dix's radio show was discussed.

Committee membership and chairmanship was discussed. Ann Marie Hicks volunteered to chair the membership committee. R.E. committee and Caring committee need to be filled and chaired.

No further old business presenting, the board next turned to the following items of new business:

The upcoming aids memorial service was discussed.

Tom Capo to accept position on board of S.O.P.

Board members to activate call list to check on member's status. Life crisis information to be compiled on members by minister.

The possibility of forming literary book discussion club discussed. to be researched by Ann Marie.

Website changes discussed by Jeff Pittman. Training session to be scheduled as part of implementation.

The possibility of having a publicity mail-out was discussed.

Having no further new business present, the meeting was adjourned by unanimous vote.
