Board Meeting Minutes - 12/21/03

The Spindletop Unitarian Church board of directors met on 12/21/03 at 9:00am.

The following board members were present:

Karen Corwin

Tom Harlan

Ria Lhis

Tom Capo (ex-officio)

The following board members were absent:

Sharon Colbert

Oscar Murphy

Mike Conn

Cathy Allen

After calling the meting to order, previous minutes were accepted and approved by unanimous vote.

The minister's report was next received by the board. Among topics discussed are as follows:

A report of the minister's activities for the previous month.

Upcoming covenant group leader's meeting.

Prison reform study/action issue progress.

Establishment of minister's discretionary fund and use thereof for church member's benefit.

Donations for purchase of pulpit chair.

Progress of consultation with Bob Hill and Jennifer Nichols Payne.

Contingency plans for when minister is absent from pulpit. (extra sermon available, guest mnisters, etc.

Minister's upcoming schedule.

The board next received the treasurer's report.

Committee reports were waived by the chair, as status quo is being maintained.

The board next turned to old business. The following items were discussed:

It is the consensus of the board that the church sign needs repair/refurnishing. Toward this end, the astecetics committee is to prepare a report and cost estimate for the eventual repair or replacement of the sign.

Church workdays are to be resumed. Dates are to be posted at the January board meeting.

All future church rentals are to be covered by written contract. Tom Harlan is to submit proposed language for rental contract at January board meeting for approval.

The minister's discretionary fund to be re-activated. Toward this end, $400.00 to be transferred to this fund.

No further old business presenting, the board next turned to new business. The following item was raised:

At the minister's request, the board voted unanimously to re-allocate the minister's housing, insurance, and salary amounts as follows:

Insurance : 286.70 Housing : 1200.00 Salary : 497.00

No further new business presenting, the meeting was then adjourned.
